Women in Ministry

Hey there, friends! Welcome back to Turning Heads Blog... I’m so happy that you’re here. Just as a heads up, I have officially created a Turning Heads Blog Pinterest account! Click here to follow me and check out my pins.

Today’s message is very important to me. In my views, the Lord doesn’t tell us to remain quiet about the social issues and injustices of this world. Let’s remember, His own Son recruited twelve men, prostitutes, and ”socially untouchable” tax collectors to carry on his work, and while on earth, He taught a radical social doctrine of equality, love, and forgiveness. God calls us to ”learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow” (Isaiah 1:17).

If you haven’t heard, the Feminist Movement is on a roll. With the guiding hands and favor of the Lord, women are working to not only be beautiful, but successful and independent members of society. Or, for movie fanatics like me, women live every day like Elle Woods after Warner told her that she wasn’t smart enough for law school. ”Legally Blonde”, anyone?

Women in ministry: this is still a controversial topic for many. Many can quote various places in the Bible where women in church must behave and act a certain way:

“Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church.” - 1 Corinthians 14: 34-35

“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was decieved and became a sinner.” - 1 Timothy 2: 11-14

However, these are not the times we are living in anymore. We are in the twenty-first century... these are the times of vaccines, NASA Space Exploration, satellites, and flying cars!

Yet even now, many still blame the fall of mankind on women, all because Eve handed Adam the fruit to eat and he chose to accept it. They hold it against us and use it as an excuse to keep women out of ministry. Yet notice this: the world did not fall into sin until Adam also chose to eat the fruit. In Genesis 3:6-7, it says, “... She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened...”

This being said, no one is here to play the blame game. Adam and Eve both played a role in bringing sin to the world, and it is ultimately the evilness of the devil that put us in this position. Yet God still has a plan for us, and He shifted this situation to remind the ladies that He is still rooting for us:

Speaking to the serpent in Genesis 3:15, He said, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” In saying this, the Lord made women and the devil enemies. Yet, God and the devil are enemies, so in His actions, the Lord ultimately set Himself on our side against the devil.

God is rooting for us. He has a plan for each and every person, and He made us in His image. He holds nothing against women, and He is fighting our battles for us, including the war for equality. How can we repay him? By spreading his message of love and faith and mercy. Having women in ministry is a necessity, for no one can speak to, relate to and encourage the wives, daughters and sisters of faith like we can!
