Today, we’re discussing 5 spirital practices to increase your mindfulness. Let’s take a moment to reflect: What is mindfulness, and why is it important to your relationship with God?
Essentially, mindfulness is a spiritual practice where one maintains a moment-by-moment awareness of their thoughts, surroundings and emotions. It’s a state of mental health where you are reaching to become fully present and living in the moment. How does this impact your relationship with God? Well, reaching a state of mindfulness is essentially reaching peace within your soul. It’s living in gratitude and accepting that whatever’s going to happen, will happen - it’s having trust in God’s plan and what He has planned for your life.
Being able to trust God, to fully surrender your doubts and fears about the past and the future to live in mindfulness, is the seed that will make your relationship with Him blossom and grow. How can we accomplish this in our daily lives? Let’s check out these 5 spiritual practices to increase your mindfulness.
1. Gratitude
The first spiritual practice to incorporate into your daily life is the practice of gratitude. By stopping throughout your day to thank God, the Lord and Savior of the universe, for all that He has done for you, you are showing Him how much it means to you.
Our praise and thankfulness is truly music to God’s ears. How better could we repay Him for all that He has and will continue to do for us?
One example of a way to practice gratitude is to wear a gratitude ring. It could be any ring that you own, or even a bracelet or perhaps something even simpler - a rock to put in your pocket. Every time you put on this ring before you leave the house, pause to thank God for all that He has done for you. Throughout the day when you look down at your hand, thank him again. Finally, at the end of the day when you slip the ring off your finger - thank Him for His abundance, and praise His name.
2. Journaling
Another important spiritual practice to incorporate into your daily life to improve your mental health is the practice of journaling. You have definitely heard of this form of mindfulness before - it’s a type of diary where you can write/draw out all of your feelings and emotions from the day. Journaling and doing shadow work (answering written prompts to help you rethink past decisions, events, emotions, etc. with the purpose of finding your highest self) can be a great way to find an inner calm and to center your relationship with God. How so? Well, by digging inside of yourself and your past, you can uncover and unlock the purpose behind God’s big plan. Journaling and shadow work truly allow you to step back from your current state, into your third-person shadow and view yourself and your history from a new angle - allowing you to reflect and come before God in peace and gratitude.
Don’t forget to have fun with it - pull out your cutest journal, colorful felt-tip pens and light a candle or two just for the experience… This will become your new favorite nightly routine! 3. Shower Cleansing
Another simple practice to add to your routine is the 2-minute practice of shower cleansing. Whenever you take a shower, whether day or night, imagine all of the dark, negative experiences from the day washing off of you. As you rub soap through your hair, imagine dirt running right off your body, swirling deep down into the drain, making you fresh and clean and brand new. Pray to God as you do this, asking Him to forgive you from your sins, purifying you in His name to be clean and new and holy. In this way, you can come out of the shower feeling fresh and new, leaving all negative experiences from that day behind you.
This was an amazing advice that I have learned from the esteemed Thewizardliz on Youtube… make sure to check out her latest video for more spirituality tips on mindfulness. I love referring to her videos as a calming guide and her advice is truly fantastic, especially when it comes to things such as mindfulness and becoming your best self. Enjoy and share with a friend!
4. Cleanse Your Aura
An important nightly ritual to increase your mindfulness is the practice of cleansing your aura and letting go. Every night before you go to bed, pray to God and tell Him these words:
”In the name of Jesus, I call back my power from every entity, place, person and situation that has been stealing my energy and power from me now, and I give back any energy and power that is not mine to carry. Jesus, I give my cares up to You for I believe. Amen.”
This is truly a therapeutic practice, and by saying these words, you are letting go. You are giving your troubles up to God, trusting Him to carry your burden. Speaking this into the universe before you go to sleep not only increases your mindfulness, but also your inner peace and mental health. You are free to sleep peacefully and comfortably knowing that God is fighting your battles.
5. Guided Christian Meditations
The last of the 5 spiritual practices to increase your mindfulness is to listen to guided Christian meditations. Linked down below will be some examples of guided meditations on Youtube that I personally have found to be deeply calming and grounding in my relationship with God. I pray that you use them as often as you can, even just to play in the background as you fall asleep, to truly gain the full effect on your inner peace.
